Specialist single-use medical devices group Vygon has partnered with the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) to organize a series of events in hospitals worldwide in aid of World Prematurity Day on November 17th.

World Prematurity Day seeks to raise awareness of the issue of premature birth, which is one of the major risk factors for morbidity and mortality in newborn infants, with over 15 million babies born prematurely each year. The theme of this year’s World Prematurity Day is “Born too soon: providing the right care, at the right time, in the right place.”

This year marks the fifth occasion on which Vygon has renewed its bronze partnership with the EFCNI and will see it undertake increased involvement in the event globally.

Stéphane Regnault, CEO of Vygon, said: “Our teams have joined forces throughout the world to make World Prematurity Day an awareness event and an opportunity for parents and nursing staff to share.”

“It is essential that we develop medical devices especially for the most vulnerable newborn infants, working hand in hand with specialist physicians to provide these babies with the best possible conditions for their development.”

“For this reason we recently launched Surfcath, a catheter designed especially for premature babies with Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Similarly, our Nutrisafe2 secure enteral feeding system caters for the high-precision dosing needs of premature babies, preventing connection errors.”
