A virtual reality technology start-up company focusing on supporting the healthcare industry has secured a six-figure funding package to grow its capital and range of products.

Rescape Innovation, located in South Wales, raised £480,000 from ten Welsh angel investors and from the Development Bank of Wales. The money will be used to enhance research and development capacities in order to support patient rehabilitation and recovery.

More specifically, technology is created to distract the brain from feelings of pain and anxiety and to lower stress levels and trauma to assist recovery functions from a mental perspective. The company’s present technology is already used in 31 healthcare businesses across the UK and is now looking to expand to international markets.

Andrew Diplock, one of the investors who led the deal, said: “The future is exciting for Rescape and with the new funding, the business will be able to make the right investment at the right time with innovative technology in the developing healthcare sector.

“I focus my investment activity on high growth potential South Wales-based businesses. Rescape Innovation certainly fits the bill and I look forward to working with the management team in the years to come.”

Chief executive of Rescape Innovation, Matt Wordley, commented: “This investment opens up an exciting new chapter for Rescape and puts us in the best position to expand our product offering to offer patients support through proven techniques like distraction therapy.

“We’re proud to have started our business here in Wales and with the brilliant talent, infrastructure and support system, we’re able to grow and develop our products here too.”
