The continence care/urinary management market is one that is set to grow. Urinary incontinence is one of the most common conditions in the elderly population across the globe and with a growing prevalence of neurological conditions (eg. Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis) whose effects can overstimulate a patient’s bladder, combined with a generally ‘ageing population’, the demand for continence care is expanding.
Products that fall into the continence care/urology bracket include catheters, leg bags, urinary pouches, drainage bags and sheaths. Those that manufacture or distribute these products in the UK include Hollister, Coloplast, ConvaTec, and B.Braun Medical.

As a Territory Manager selling within the urology/continence care sector, you will have well-honed relationship building skills. Your customers, who will be largely made up of Continence Advisors, Urology Nurse Specialists, Urology Consultants and Community/District Nurses are looking to your products to enhance their patients’ lifestyle and dignity. The ability to show empathy towards the patients your products are needed to treat is essential, but so too is commercial acumen. It is no good establishing strong relationships with your customer base if they don’t buy your products from you! Commercial skills are also needed when it comes to negotiating terms of supply with Hospital Procurement – they will be looking and asking for your best prices whilst you will be protecting your margins; the ability to prove ‘value’ in your product will be tested and needed.
