Online consultation provider eConsult has become integrated with the NHS App, enabling patients whose surgeries use eConsult to access GP advice through the app.

The NHS App will now feature clinically validated eConsult questions in its “Ask your GP for advice” section. These questions allow the patient’s surgery to decide on the best way to advise the patient.

Patients can now access online consultations and help from their GP, with questions representing the same ones that would be asked during a triage. This will save people from having to go to their GP surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the initial consultation, the GP will follow up to deliver the necessary treatment, results or advice. This will be done either with an electronic message, video or phone call or a face-to-face appointment.

Commenting on the integration, eConsult chief executive Dr Murray Ellender said: “As COVID-19 continues to keep us in lockdown, we want to make sure that everyone in England is receiving the best medical care possible.”

“The eConsult integration with the NHS App is allowing people above the age of 13, whatever their level of capability to have easy access to important medical advice when they need it. This is vital for eConsult patients during COVID-19 as people are more reluctant to seek medical advice for other illnesses due to fear of catching the Coronavirus.”

“As people are using healthcare apps more frequently than ever before to seek medical advice, this integration among providers is a step in the right direction for efficiency between patients and doctors.”
