Clinical diagnostics specialist Novacyt has expanded its VersaLab portfolio with the launch of VersaLab Portable, which provides an additional level of support in near-patient medical testing environments.
Initially focused on the support of private sector testing of infectious diseases including COVID-19, Novacyt launched VersaLab in December 2020 and has since added to the portfolio with the addition of mobile processing laboratories.
According to Novacyt, the "PCR lab in a box" comes with all the equipment required to provide near-patient PCR testing using the firm's PROmate workflow in non-clinical settings.
The VersaLab Portable device has been designed to focus on small and medium sized organisations, as well as sports events, education facilities and the leisure industry.
Graham Mullis, chief executive officer of Novacyt, said: “When we launched VersaLab our aim was to bring PCR technology closer to patients. The initial market response to the portfolio is encouraging and the Company looks to increase its promotion during the second half of 2021."
Mr Mullis added that the new VersaLab Portable will boost access to affordable testing in areas where the infrastructure does not support lab-based testing, while still providing the same results from "gold standard PCR reagents."
"We believe that VersaLab Portable can support organisations, including small to medium businesses, offer on site testing as lockdowns begin to ease internationally."
