Student paramedic vacancies now open

The West Midlands Ambulance Service, which tends to emergencies occurring in the Staffordshire and Burton areas, is recruiting paramedics for 2019, with the aim of having 225 new members of staff by the end of next year.

In particular, a student paramedic vacancy has generated much interest, having received 13,000 website hits since the opening went live on the NHS employment website on November 30, 2018.

Over a thousand people have started applications to fill the position, which will assist the ambulance service with their duties in the Burton region.

Louise Harris, the recruitment manager for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "There is no doubt that we have seen a huge level of interest in the role of student paramedic.

"Our social media channels on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have seen loads of people asking for more information. We're also providing daily hints and tips.

"It is great news that so many people have taken the time to look at the role. As an 'earn as you learn' scheme, it opens up possibilities to a wide range of people in the region."

Harris also noted that applications were received from people with a wide variety of ages, and from numerous professional backgrounds, many of whom were looking to change careers or do an extra job.

"From our perspective, this is excellent news because it means we get a really good variety of people from all walks of life, area, ethnic group and community; which can only be good for the service."
