Science park worth £35m opens in Reading

A science and technology park has opened to scientists and science companies alike after the first stage of a 20-year, £35 million project has been completed.

The Gateway building at the brand new Thames Valley Science Park is part of a new development by Reading University, which aims to bring together academic work and science businesses in one facility.

According to the university, the finished development is expected to stretch across more than 50 additional acres, with up to 5,000 science jobs to be created across the site. These jobs will include positions within the brand new Gateway building, which will play host to entrepreneurs and growing business across the industry.

Commenting on the opening of the new buildings, Sir David Bell, vice-chancellor of Reading University, suggested that its position within each reach of London and Heathrow airport will ensure its success in attracting international interest and creating even more science jobs.

"The Thames Valley Science Park is the first of its kind in the region, and a sign of the university's commitment to investing in the economy," he said. "It also represents an exciting moment for the university as it further enhances its reputation for excellence – locally, nationally and internationally."
