Biomedical research company benefits from £300,000 funding package

Biomedical research firm Alderley Analytical received a £300,000 funding boost from FW Capital Debt Finance, a subdivision of Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF) run by British Business Bank.

The company, based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, presently has 21 members of staff and expects to use the money to fund six new jobs in the following months.

The business was founded in 2014 by Elizabeth Thomas, Claire Wildgoose, Paul Holme and Sally Hannam as a bioanalytical contract research firm which aids the creation of new drugs by measuring and studying their levels in biological fluid samples.

Elizabeth Thomas, the chief executive of Alderley Analytical, commented: “The funding has been used to recruit new staff and buy a new mass spectrometer, a high-tech piece of equipment which is used to measure drug levels in biological fluids.

“The data we generate leads to the right dose getting to the right patient and ultimately helps to get new medicines to market.”

Thomas further added that the team saw FW Capital as “long term investment partners for the future.”

The company has experienced a turnover of more than £1 million in 2017, from just £33,000 in 2014, and expects a further growth of over 60% in 2018.

Senior investment executive Gavin Cowling at FW Capital said: “Alderley Analytical is an exciting business with plenty of growth prospects and a solid pipeline of work. The company is run by a strong management team which includes scientific and commercial expertise.”
