UK medtech MediConnect has announced that it will partner with software firm Rishabh Software to develop a pilot version of a new blockchain-based medical supply chain management application.

The platform will be the first supply chain management application to be based on blockchain. The app will aim to prevent supply chains of counterfeit goods, such as medication and PPE, by tracing the source of products.

It will also seek to meet demand by streamlining workflow events and documentation, while enabling secure interaction and file sharing between parties such as manufacturers, wholesalers, workers, retailers and patients.

MediConnect has already developed a framework solution on blockchain for medical supply chain management, with Rishabh taken on as technical development partners, to work with blockchain developers Stratis.

The pilot will aim to show how the web-based platform, which will be available via desktop and mobile, can place and carry out supply chain transactions. The app is designed to be able to manage multiple distribution channels for partners registered on the platform.

MediConnect CEO Dexter Blackstock said: “Having established a network of industry and NHS partners, we are thrilled to now be building our pioneering platform to manage and authenticate medical products. Rishabh Software are global specialists in software development […] We look forward to a fruitful relationship and working together to launch a live platform as soon as possible.”
