Women’s health medical technology company Hologic has entered into exclusive negotiations with French ultrasound innovator, SuperSonic Imagine, to acquire the business in order to expand its portfolio of technology to diagnose and treat women with breast cancer.
The acquisition will allow Hologic to enter the global cart-based breast ultrasound market, which will ensure the company grows and develops alongside the industry as a whole. SuperSonic Imagine’s technological offerings will complement Hologic’s Viera™ – the wireless ultrasound scanner that is presently being commercialised.
Division president of Hologic’s Breast and Skeletal Health Solutions department, Pete Valenti, said: “Like our previous acquisitions of Faxitron and Focal, acquiring SuperSonic Imagine will strengthen our strategy to provide comprehensive screening, interventional and surgical solutions across the continuum of breast health care.
“Ultrasound is becoming increasingly important in diagnosing breast cancer, and we believe SuperSonic Imagine offers superior technology that translates into better clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients, as well as for patients with liver and prostate disease.”
President and CEO of Hologic, Steve MacMillan, added: “SuperSonic Imagine provides best-in-class ultrasound technology that is strategically important to the long-term growth of our Breast Health business. The transaction is consistent with our capital deployment goals and will be accretive to our revenue growth rate.”
