Over a million people have registered with NHS login, as the coronavirus pandemic causes a huge upsurge in demand for digital medical services. The first week of April alone saw a peak of 60,000 new verified IDs.

The NHS login service allows users to access their healthcare information across a series of connected apps and platforms. Due to the recent increased demand, several new features have been incorporated, including automated identity checking for users on Android devices.

Automated identity checking will soon also be available to iOS users, while, later this month, an online help function will go live to help guide users through the application process. A new verification capability will also benefit patients accessing online consultations.

The NHS App, which was the first to go live with NHS login, has reached 520,000 users, with close to 120,000 new users joining in the month of March alone.

NHS Digital Executive Director of Product Development Ben Davison commented: “We are pleased to see more and more people using digital methods to take control of their health and care during this difficult period.

“In using services integrated with NHS login, such as the NHS App, patients can be sure that their healthcare information is properly looked after through a single and secure sign-in.”
