Medtech innovation consultancy Health Enterprise East (HEE) has launched MedTech CONNECT, an online portal designed to encourage collaboration between medical device firms and the NHS.

The portal is a core pillar of the MedTech NAVIGATOR programme, which is being delivered by HEE with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The programme seeks to increase knowledge-sharing between the medtech industry and the NHS.

MedTech CONNECT is designed for both medtech SMEs and clinicians, enabling both parties to connect with the most suitable development partners. The portal is the first of its kind and runs on a free-to-access basis.

It is designed to overcome the challenges companies face in accessing clinical expertise during the early development phase of their devices, by offering a streamlined route to clinical help. The portal enables companies to easily locate and contact appropriate NHS experts and likewise allows clinicians to engage with innovative companies.

HEE Senior Consultant Dr Chris Warwick said: “In our experience, the quickest and most effective way to get new technologies that truly meet patients’ needs to market is for NHS experts and the medtech industry to work more closely together from the outset.”

“MedTech CONNECT allows for easy, tailored two-way access which we believe could yield far-reaching benefits for patients, in terms of swifter access to innovative technologies. By removing some of the bureaucracy that can hamper innovation, we are confident that MedTech CONNECT will accelerate medtech adoption in our health service and ultimately improve patient outcomes.”
