Sussex medial device company makes key acquisition

West Sussex healthcare company, Westhouse Medical Services Plc, is to develop and market a revolutionary new breast cancer screening technology and patent, after making a key acquisition from another medical equipment company.
The business will focus energy on the low cost, mobile and non-invasive Profemme breast cancer screening technology, which is likely to provide the British medical landscape with a clear and modern alternative for mammogram screening.
The company's chief executive, Jack Kaye, said that the acquisition would allow the company to focus on expansion and development, and to tackle a new technology area that will hopefully have wide-spread applications.
"It complements our current work on the development of a low-cost thermometry- based breast cancer screening device, BreastCheck™, which will be available for both hospital and home use, meaning patients can self-test, further reducing the strain on already-stretched healthcare budgets and hospital staff," he explained.
He said that the affordable solution had great potential internationally, particularly in countries currently facing economic difficulties, where health services are cutting back on their breast cancer checking provisions.
The device uses thermometry-based technology to locate differences in temperature in breast tissue, which can be an early indicator of abnormalities and more serious conditions.
