Sales at Scottish medical equipment company rise by 67pc

25/11/2011
Omega Diagnostics, the Scottish manufacturer of hospital and scientific testing kits, has reported a staggering 67 per cent rise in sales during the first six months of this year.

The company saw its sales rise to £5.5 million during the first six months. Its pre-tax profits rose by 6 per cent, to £427,000, but the company said that this comparatively moderate rise was due to increased amounts of money being invested in development and administrative costs.

The chairman of the company, David Evans, said that the group was seeing very encouraging growth, particularly in its sales to foreign markets including Ireland, Poland, the UAE and China, as well as the launch of their Food Detective kit in Brazil.

"Overall our business continues to grow and current underlying trading is resilient with sales continuing the trend of being weighted towards the second half of the financial year," Evans explained. "As noted in the recent trading update the visibility of Allergozyme export sales remains uncertain and customer evaluations in certain overseas markets are taking longer than first anticipated, but the directors remain confident in this range of products."

Omega specialises in the development of food intolerance, autoimmune disease and infectious disease testing kits, for use in hospitals, blood banks and laboratories.
