'Resposable' products driving growth for Surgical Innovations

27/01/2012
The trade marking of ‘resposable’ pieces of medical equipment by British device manufacturer, Surgical Innovations, has been the cornerstone of their exceptional growth over the last five years.

The Leeds-based developer and manufacturer of surgical and hospital equipment has established a whole new category of products that has forged a middle line between completely reusable and completely disposable products.

The ‘resposable’ line – developed most in its tools for laparoscopic surgery – offers equipment that uses both reusable and disposable parts. The company’s chief executive, Graham Boland, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that they can see people being drawn towards their new model for equipment.

“Because of the economic issues that all countries face, particularly in the US with the Obama health-care reform, there’s a massive opportunity for a company like Surgical Innovations because of the cost offering that we have,” he said.

“It has primarily been a single-use market, but those days are finished, and now we can drive through our concept of ‘resposable’. We’re seeing momentum now in the US.”

The company has grown five-fold since 2006, growing from 30 staff to its current head count of 150, which includes a number of specialist medical and hospital sales jobs.
