Norwich scientific job potential highlighted
13/12/2011
A number of medical and scientific device projects were among those presented to a key gathering of angel investors in Norwich recently, to try to promote scientific and medical job creation in the region.
The event was staged to showcase the technology and business opportunities emerging from Norwich Research Park (NRP). Attendees were invited by the Cambridge Capital Group to mark the launch of the group’s new VENTA initiative, which is aimed at encouraging potential high growth, early-stage companies into the park.
The chairman of the park’s research board, Walter Herriot, said that it was becoming a world-leading centre for research in a number of bio-science fields and they were looking to capitalise on that.
He added, “The focus over the next ten years is to create new jobs by maximising the commercial potential of this intellectual property and attracting inward investment.”
Companies displaying at the event include one that is developing an intelligent prescription support system, another that is working on a smart device to ensure that samples for clinical trials arrive in peak condition, and a drug detection device that uniquely links specimens to their providers.
Local MP, George Freeman, said that the NRP is a prime spot for new and expanding science, technology and research businesses.
