'Medi Park' could create new medical sales jobs in Leeds

A planned 'Medi Park' in Leeds could see the creation of hundreds of medical and scientific sales jobs created in the region.
The idea of the park - which would be a medical manufacturing hub, home to around 150 medical development companies - has been put forward by Doug Liversidge, the chairman of lauded Leeds medical firm, Surgical Innovations.
The company was recently awarded £7 million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, and Liversidge said they hoped that they could create a knock-on effect for other medical companies in the city or those that are looking to make it their base.
"If we develop [our new] products, we'd need to develop new premises," he said. "The natural place to go is to develop a Medi Park in Leeds. We have 150 companies in the medical field in and around Leeds. We would like Surgical to be a cornerstone of the park. We believe it would greatly enhance the economic position of Leeds."
Liversidge has received strong backing from Leeds City Council, with the council's top representative for city development, Richard Lewis, saying, "It is exactly the sort of investment we want to attract into the Aire Valley enterprise zone in the future."
